MINI-VAN RACING
14.1 ELIGIBLE MODELS
14.1.1 Any VEHICLE approved for participation must remain factory stock-
14.1.2 These vehicles are intended to be NOVELTY RACERS, NOT RACECARS.
14.1.3 Any non V-8 vehicle, 1985 to present with maximum wheelbase of 119.3 inches and a minimum wheel base of 105 inches.
14.1.4 All Vehicles will have a complete stock engine, body, frame and suspension for that year, make and model. No modifications, alterations, or additions allowed.
14.1.5 Front and rear bumper modifications may be approved but are subject to tech approval individually.
14.1.6 Engines will not exceed 4.3 liters.
14.1.7 Stock carburetor/fuel injection system for that year, make and model required.
14.1.8 Stock transmission and stock unaltered rear end for that year, make and model required.
14.1.9 Dash may be removed, steering, and pedals must remain stock for that year, make and model.
14.1.10 Battery may be relocated from factory position. If relocated it must be contained in a tech approved container.
14.1.11 Exhaust must be leak free and extend behind the driver with a functional muffler in place.
14.1.12 Racing seats are highly recommended. Tech approval required on installation. Reinforcement of factory bucket seats will be subject to tech approval.
14.2 MODIFICATIONS ALLOWED AND/OR REQUIRED
14.2.1 Any passenger car tires approved 60 series or taller. Wheels will be factory stock in size and no different than the car was originally equipped. Factory ride attitude must be maintained. No low profile or racing type tires allowed. Oversized wheel studs on right front spindle allowed.
14.2.2 All flammable material inside of the vehicle shall be removed, including the headliner, carpets and panels.
14.2.3 All glass and plastic shall be removed as per tech approval.
14.2.4 Gas Tank:
14.2.4.1 If stock gas tank is forward of rear axle, it may remain in place.
14.2.4.2 If stock gas tank is behind rear axle, it must be replaced or contained in the trunk area as far forward as possible. IT IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED THAT THIS FUEL CONTAINER BE REPLACED WITH A COMMERCIALLY PRODUCED FUEL CELL. All fuel container applications must be tech approved. If fuel container is relocated, it shall have a steel firewall between it and the driver.
14.2.4.2.1 Two, front to rear straps on top and around bottom of fuel cell or approved container are mandatory.
14.2.4.2.2 One side to side strap will be required in the same fashion as the front to rear straps.
14.2.4.2.3 Said straps will be made of a minimum ¾ ‘ metal flat strap.
14.2.5 Roll Bar: A single hoop rear roll bar (behind driver) is required. Roll bar must be welded or bolted in place, attached to car. Four (4) points mounting max. Roll bar padding mandatory on all bars within reach of the driver. Driver door bars are HIGHLY recommended, maximum of 4 evenly spaced on the left side of the 4 point cage.
14.2.6 PASSENGER: if a passenger is approved, all Safety requirements including but not limited to roll bar, door bars, door protection, saftey nets, harnesses, helmets and clothing are applicable to the right side of the vehicle.
14.2.7 Windshield may remain if in good condition or may be replaced by lexan or maximum 1” by 1” screen. All other glass, and under hood insulation must be removed. One interior mirror is allowed.
14.2.8 All doors must be welded, bolted or chained shut. A driver’s door plate is required of no less than 3” wide x ¼” thick steel flat strap extending past the front and rear door seams in the middle of the door skin. The purpose of the strap is to not only keep the door closed but to provide some impact resistance. It is recommended that more than one of these straps be installed. All straps must be installed flat. An industrial size grader blade, welded in place of the strap minimum in highly recommended.
14.2.9 Vehicle color is optional. Theme paint schemes are welcomed.
14.3 PERSONAL PROTECTION
14.3.1 Approved helmet, Snell 2000 or M-2000 minimum requirement.
14.3.2 4 point racing seat belts required(5point recommended). (3 yr date stamp recommended) Tech approval.
14.3.3 Long sleeve fire retardant jacket required, full length Nomex racing suit highly recommended. Long pants and full leather shoe or boot required. No nylon allowed PERIOD.
14.3.4 Racing suit, gloves and neck brace highly recommended.
14.3.5 Fire extinguisher with gauge must be securely mounted within easy reach of driver required.
14.3.6 Driver’s side window net is required. Must be equipped with quick release for driver exit and entry on driver side.
14.3.7 All cars are subject to a minimum specification inspection at any time. It is the responsibility of the driver to prepare their van/car free of defects and in safe racing condition.
14.4 EVENTS
14.4.1 These vehicles will race in novelty events only and will not compete in regular season standings. Most wins will determine the season champion.
